Cott-tent

In and effort to encourage and support a team atmosphere, highlight all of the great local race companies, and just plain have fun, COTT has selected six key races for the 2011 season that we will focus our attention on.

We will be spending our time promoting both racing and spectating these events. At each of these events we will have our brand new, super cool COTT tent and will focus on having special support and perks for COTT members including things such as mechanical support, food (Yes, COTT has its own grill now! -oh yea!), massage!? (cross your fingers), special freebies for racers and spectators, etc.
If you are looking for races to do, check out this list and seriously consider these races. If you aren’t racing these races for whatever reason, come out and cheer on your fellow athletes. It will be fun! Let’s show the rest of the triathlon community who COTT is!
Jun 12 – Wendy’s International Triathlon, sprint distance (Ultrafit)
Jul 31 – Giant Eagle Triathlon, sprint and olympic distance (HFP)
Aug 7 – Greenswell Wellness Evolution Triathlon, sprint and olympic distance (Greenswell)
Aug 28 – IM Louisville (Yes, we know it isn’t exactly local but we have a lot of COTT members registered)
Sep 11 – Rev3 Cedarpoint, half and full iron distance (Rev3)
Sep 17 – Events Plus Super Sprint Plus (EPR)
Setting up for these races will take a lot of work and we can definitely use some help at each one. If you are available to help for any of these races, please email us at centralohiotriathlon@gmail.com and let us know which race.
Stay tuned for more information!

How Crash Dieting Makes Your Less Fit May 16, 2011

An article from our friends at Accelerade:

Like everyone else, endurance athletes worry about their weight.  And, like everyone else, endurance athletes diet periodically.  We know that a pound contains about 3,500 calories, so if we eat 1,000 calories less each day, more than two pounds will magically disappear each week.  And, since we are generally impatient, we push the daily caloric deficit to help us get to our goal weight faster.  For athletes, however, the consequences of reducing caloric intake by 750-1,000 calories per day can be significant. SEE MORE

Hungry on the Bike? May 6, 2011

An article for our friends at Accelerade:

Exercise suppresses hunger by affecting the release of hormones that control appetite. Consequently, if you start a workout with an empty stomach, you may forget about your hunger until after you’re done. But exercise doesn’t kill hunger completely. During very prolonged exercise, hunger can become just as intense as it does at rest. Cyclists and triathletes routinely experience rumbling stomachs on the bike during long workouts and races. SEE MORE

An article for our friends at Accelerade:

Every endurance athlete knows that body weight affects performance. We race best when we are light and lean. But what is your ideal racing weight? If you don’t know, it’s worth figuring out so that you can target that weight each time you prepare for a major race. SEE MORE

2011 COTT Uniforms–ORDER NOW! March 15, 2011

It’s time to order uniforms again! Okay, for some of us this time of year is a little more stressful than it is exciting, but seeing members rockin’ their COTT threads on group rides and on the race course is worth it in the end. Thanks to your input from that crazy long survey we sent out a while ago (thanks for your participation, by the way…), we’re going to make a few small changes this year that might be good for everyone.

1. Deadline: This year, we really want to have our uniforms by late May or early June, which unfortunately means that the ordering window is going to be pretty short. Don’t worry though, we thought of everything. (Well, probably not everything, but at least the important stuff.) The order deadline is MARCH 23RD…that’s like 9 days from now!

2. Fit Kit: Louis Garneau sent us a fit kit already so that you can try on the jerseys and tri tops ahead of time so that you’ll be confident when you place your order…and you will be ordering right? Right!

Roadrunner Sports was kind enough to open its doors to us THIS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16TH FROM 6-8PM so that members can come out and try on items from fit kit. If you can’t make it on Wednesday night, we’re going to try to hold another fit kit…umm…fitting sometime this weekend, so stay tuned. If you don’t think you’ll be able to make either fitting, here’s a link to LG’s sizing chart. They seem to run pretty true to size as well.

http://www.louisgarneau-custom.com/ordering/size_chart.asp

3. Price: Just like last year, tri tops will be $54.50 each and cycling jerseys will be $60 each. It’s a bit of investment, but they are high quality so you should get a lot of use out of them…because you’ll be doing and lot of riding and/or racing, right? Right!

4. Style: Full zip men’s and women’s cycling jerseys (short sleeve) and men’s and women’s tri tops. This year, we’re opting for a lighter weight fabric for the cycling jerseys since it gets pretty darned hot around here in the summer. The tri top fabric is very nice and is unchanged from 2010.

5. Design: Some of you may remember the (completely fabricated) critic acclaim our uniform designs received last year. Honestly though, we received tons of compliments out on the road, on charity rides, and in races. Plus, they make it really easy for us to spot you on the course so we know when to ring those cowbells!

6. Ordering: This is the easy part. Once you know what you’re going to order (three of each, right?), you’ll need to go to our handy dandy ordering site.

http://www.cott.us/uniformorder.php

7. More info: Links to more information about the jersey and tri top as well as mock-ups of our design are also available on the order page. (http://www.cott.us/uniformorder.php) We will try to bring a jersey and tri top from last year to the fit kit events so that you can see what they actually look like.

8. DEADLINE: Okay, one more time–this time with feeling! In order to get these uniforms in time for race season, we need to have all orders submitted by WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23RD!

Now that you have all the information, go check out the goods and start ordering! If you have any questions, send them to centralohiotriathlon@gmail.com.
